Shibuya, Harajuku, Shinjuku, Kabukichō
Thursday 6th November
This morning I overslept, badly. xD Apparently my alarm was not working so I woke up around 11:00h. Felt great though. 🙂
When I was finally fully awake and ready to go, I first took the bicycle around town to go shopping at a biological store, it appeared. I had some special order / request to take care of. 😉 Anyways, this caused some confusion in the store because the ladies over there appeared determined to help me, but since neither spoke English and my Japanese was not developed enough to understand all the provided information. So, one of them made a phone call to a third, who eventually came rushing in, ready to translate. Yay! She did appear awfully nervous for having to speak English all of a sudden, but after telling her she was doing great and should take it easy, it became a bit better. D’aww.. *g
I eventually managed to bring back with me what I was looking for (take sumi) and after leaving it at my room, I could resume my way. This time I took the JR loop line to Shibuya.
I simply walked around until I would find an interesting spot or store, which I occasionally found. Also, just being at the famous intersection near Shibuya station did not quite yield the magic feeling that everyone talks about. But maybe that had to do with the bad weather and the fact that it wasn’t night and no neon lights were to be seen. 😉
I proceeded to go to Harajuku and Yoyogikoen and eventually Shinjuku. In Yoyogikoen I walked though the park and saw some large tori (gates). I have to say that I got the impression that I was in some kind of rain forest, what with the rain and screaming birds.
When I arrived in Shinjuku, I went to the eki (station) and walked around the shopping plaza including a large Tokyu Hands depāto (department store). It was quite pleasant shopping over here on account of it not being loud and even louder, as is the case with some of the depāto I have been at.
When I got outside again, it had not stopped raining yet but it had gotten dark. Lovely. 🙂 Neon lights engage!
But it was also time to find a restaurant for some more foodstuffs. Please see a previous post regarding the pizza. xD
The pizza was delicious and being at the restaurant provided me with an opportunity to read and write a bit more, which was nice. Also, the friendly waitress was very helpful and the fact that she spoke some English and rather confidently so, also helped. Yay!
So, when I had finished the pizza, I went on my merry way again, scooting around the neighborhood and just seeing sights and many other things. Neon lit things mainly.
I had actually been looking for a nice watch, to go with my formal outfit and I finally came close to to a very very nice looking one that was only ¥2990. But still, I think the color was not neutral enough… Too bad, because otherwise it would have been quite right.
But after lots of strolling and window shopping, it was getting late and it was quite the trip back to my room. But along the way it became apparent that the pizza had not quite been able to satisfy me, so I was happy to find a Burger King at Kanda eki. nom
On the final stretch home, I went to the supā (supermarket) for a couple of groceries and just as I reached the mansion, it started raining again. xD Yay for timings and hazzing dem.
When I got home, Junko-san and her husband where getting ready for bed and we had a little talk about the day. I hadn’t spoken much to Junko-san’s husband, but he turned our to be very friendly, but unfortunately doesn’t speak English. I just must make sure that my Japanese language skills are better developed when I go to Japan again…
And so ended another day. Now there are two and a half left. On Sunday I will depart I’m the evening, so in the morning there might be time to visit Yoyogikoen again… We’ll see.
